Arrival by car

Dortmund is situated at the eastern periphery of the Ruhr Area and is surrounded by one of Europe's most dense motorway networks that provides a good accessibility by car and bus.  Take A1 if you come from north and A1 or A45 if you get to Dortmund from the south. Arriving from west take A40 and A44 from east.

Arrival by plain

The city’s regional airport connects Dortmund with important German and European centers (Dortmund Airport). There is an hourly public transport connection from the airport to the city center, which takes approximately 25 minutes. The additional bus route 440 runs directly to TU Dortmund University campus, which takes approximately 45 minutes. The international Cologne Bonn Airport and Düsseldorf Airport are also close to the Ruhr Area and provide regular train connections to Dortmund that take less than 2 hours.

Arrival by train

The Dortmund central station (Hauptbahnhof) is one of the most important transportation hubs in Germany. Besides the hourly ICE connections to Cologne and Berlin and the two-hourly ICE connections to Munich, all the regional trains meet here and therefore ensure numerous connections to the region around Dortmund. A commuter train to the TU Dortmund University campus is running from here every 20 minutes. The city center is only a few minutes’ walk from the Dortmund main station. Plan your individual journey on Deutsche Bahn or VRR.
